Living An Honorable Life

I have the blessing of living several decades. That has given me time to experience many things in my own life and to witness the world and the people in it.

Like all of us I have not always been on the right track. My thoughts and actions have sometimes taken me in directions that upon reflection I wonder, what was I thinking? However there was one consistent thought in my head or should I say a question; “Is this the honorable thing to do?”

Where did that thought come from? My mom and dad? Religion? Education? Friends? Other family members? I suppose all of those contributed to that question in my head.

I now believe that the primary drivers of that question was my upbringing and the folks I have had direct contact with over the years, and the books I’ve read.

Being honorable does not happen by accident. We need to read and listen to the right things and people. We need to stay away from folks who take shortcuts for personal gain, we need to be conscious of how and where we spend our time. We need to live our lives intentionally. That is, always being honorable in our personal and professional decisions. Perfection (I already pointed I was less than perfect) is not achievable, effort is what matters.

Our lives and the world will most likely improve if we can live our own lives as honorably as possible. It may not be easy at the time, but after you lived a few decades, you will be happy you made honorable decisions.

Spend time with someone you admire today. Read a good book today. Listen to an inspirational speaker today. These activities will help you stay on track.I’ll doing all three today.

Thanks for reading.
